There’s something so amusing about the fact that Lena Dunham is now, finally, getting her cultural comeuppance.

I say cultural comeuppance because Lena may never actually face any kind of comeuppance that actually matters.

She will never be punched in the face.

She will never be robbed.

She will never be caught with drugs on an international flight.

Lena Dunham is and always has been dangerous because she is isolated. When you are isolated enough so that anything remotely dangerous is “beneath you,” then you are dangerous.

More than dangerous, you are useless.

I wanted to like Lena Dunham. I wanted to look up to her, see her as an emulator for my ideal life. She was a successful young woman of the arts. Not too far off from what I wanted to be.

Culture loved Lena Dunham. Here was an agreeable liberal pushing the most agreeable form of feminism the world had ever seen: Girl power, nods to history, and rising up together against the Clearly Crazy Dictator.

Lena Dunham was easy to swallow. She had self-pride, and produced art that spoke of different experiences than…
