Previous chapter.

We still had no idea where we were going by the time the sun came up. The clock on the car’s dashboard said 7:15, so I guess we’d been driving for an hour at that point. But it didn’t matter. We were out on a mission! Just like we’d seen the grownups do before.

But after a while, we started to actually get hungry. So we stopped at a campground in Orlando and laid out a blanket under a tree.

Tommy actually liked being in the third seat, because it meant that she was the one who got to pull out everything when we stopped. It’d be like that for the rest of the trip. But this time she was excited to pull out Ryan’s big cooler from the trunk.

We opened up the cooler on top of the blanket, and I immediately laughed. Right on top was my brownie cake, packaged up in individual plastic boxes. We each got one. Then under that looked like rolled-up burritos. Then Andy closed it up after that, saying we had to ration out food and we probably shouldn’t tempt ourselves.

The sun was up, so most of us had taken off our jackets. Eating brownie cake…
