Julio and I hung out a lot. I think I annoyed him at first but eventually he got used to it. I just didn’t know anyone else at Home. So we went to school and played basketball together. They had a court in the middle of the camp, and we played after dinner so we could play for a while and not feel too hot.

Though that changed over time; enough kids were showing up that I got to know most of them. They all had boy names, even if they were really Taylors wearing boy clothes. I guess they just didn’t want to break the habit. Two of them started playing basketball with us. You probably know who they were — Tommy and Oliver.

I have to be honest: Oliver was a little small to play full-on basketball with us. But she could actually do a lay-up. Tommy could run really fast. It made Drew angry sometimes.

It was nice to know more people at Home. I think it made Ryan realize that he was being a jerk by spending all his time with Andy. After my tenth birthday, he transferred rooms to be across the hall from Julio and I. They made him a Cabin Head, which sounded made up…
