CURRENT MOOD:

To clarify: Memorial Day is indeed separate from Veteran’s Day. Today we commemorate the soldiers who never made it home.

Let’s take a second and just be thankful. Thankful that people are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for something as imperfect as a nation.

It’s important to also keep in mind the words that can motivate people to do something like that.

If you’ve never looked into the history of armed forces recruitment ads, I strongly encourage you to do so.

I’m reading a book for an upcoming *secret project* called From Those Wonderful Folks That Brought You Pearl Harbor, and it’s already startling to learn about the effect of the Vietnam War on advertising. Even decade by decade, it’s amazing to see the changes over time in how we advertise war.

Words have the power to influence decisions. Use them wisely. Never forget that human beings are reading them.
