Previous chapter.

The sun was shining brightly through the windows as we approached Sacramento. I was all cried out, having done it in my seat while Mr. Fu slept. But I was still mopey. I didn’t know what to do, but I didn’t want to be on the train any longer. “Are we there yet?”

“No, Andrew. It’s only two more hours, though. You can probably take a nap and wake up by the time we’re in Sacramento.”

“I slept all through the night.”

“Well, have you read your magazine?”

“Not all of it.”

“Well, then read the rest of it. You can buy another magazine when we stop in Sacramento. We’ll be there for a few hours before we get on the Zephyr and get to Chicago.”

“Mr. Fu, I only have a few dollars. That’s as much as Ma — as much as John gave me for the bus.”

“So take a few more out of John’s wallet. He doesn’t need that money now.”

“Isn’t that stealing?”
