Previous chapter.

Six months after arriving at Home, I got my period. It was weird and horrifying and different, but I had Three with me. We were on an assignment together, gathering supplies. Thankfully I discovered it in the privacy of the RV. She stopped for cotton balls and tissue, fashioning a makeshift sanitary pad out of them. It looked like a thick burrito, but it did the job.

I didn’t want to mark the occasion at all, but Three wouldn’t hear of it. Once we arrived at the Texas town and picked up the Taylor, she went out to a restaurant in drag and came out with a frozen cake under one arm.

“What’s this for?” I eyed the cake. It had red frosting trim, but no message written on top.

“It’s to celebrate your coming of age.” Three took off her shirt and started unwinding her binding tape.

“What’s that mean?” The Taylor asked, looking up from her coloring book. She looked to be about four years old.

“It means I got my period.” I was suddenly feeling really bashful.
