Our first stop on this train was Toledo, very quick. There was a slight chill in the air, and I liked it. It was a nice change from California. I could feel at home somewhere with a cool breeze.

Another bus change, and it was 13 hours to Washington D.C. I spent most of the time looking out the window, mostly because I hadn’t ever seen this part of the country but also because I was still furious with Mr. Fu. I didn’t want to talk to him, and he didn’t talk to me. I couldn’t tell any more than that, as usual.

The East Coast always looked so glamorous in movies. Just full of shiny buildings and monuments. In real life it just seemed sad. Lots of people running around in coats, looking slightly frightened no matter how fancy their clothing was. Just people milling around, a sea of maleness.

The Washington D.C. train station wasn’t exactly full; it had lots of activity, but not a lot of people. Maybe it was the same fifty bodies in suits, circulating through the same area. A few young children and some prepper types like us stood out, but mostly it was…
