Maskheads (The Maskheads Series, #3)
Chapter Nine.
This is a speculative fiction series comprised of three books. Chapters will be released one at a time, with links to previous and next chapters when applicable.
Andy stopped in an alleyway (a common theme, I know) and hurried us into what looked like an abandoned pizza parlor. But a kick through the door and an opening of a secret door revealed it to be another safehouse. One with a mudroom and a full kitchen, even.
How many of these had I not seen in the progress I’d made all these years? In all my time traveling and researching all these stories, how had I missed these safehouses? These little clues that the world was not as it seemed?
A year ago, these questions would have thrown me. They would have made me feel defensive, maybe hurt. Now they just make me excited. I want to go back and make a map of everything that I missed. I want to learn.
But in that moment, in the super-cool underground safehouse, the issue was the big crowd of kids. Andy, understandably, felt compelled to go and mingle.
“Are you sure you want to go check it out?” Bugsy asked.
“Maybe just scope it out from the outside.” Andy said diplomatically.
