This is a speculative fiction series comprised of three books. Chapters will be released one at a time, with links to previous and next chapters when applicable.

My name is Lydia Williams. I have no mother and no father.

I’m a lot younger than I look; I’m 28 years old. But people don’t need to know that. Especially not people I interview for the paper.

That’s what I do: I’m a reporter for the Portland Star. It’s a weird place, but it’s a good place to build a career. I’ve learned a lot since coming here. What’s important is that I was a reporter at the time the Maskheads were active. That’s the time period I’m writing about now.

This part of history is the one right after the outbreak of the Hera Virus. It ostensibly killed off 99% of the female population of the United States. Only six women were known to have lived. They were promptly made celebrities, labeled Lady One through Six.

At the beginning of this story, I was starting to doubt the narrative that had been laid out. I was writing a biography of Lady Two when the doubts first started to take hold. She had lived away from public scrutiny for over a decade. If she could exist hiding underground, maybe there were…
