I Didn’t Believe The Hype About Getting Enough Sleep. Then I Realized Something.
Does your body hate you?
Through 2017 and up to 2018, it seems like we couldn’t escape people lecturing us about sleep.
Oh my gosh, the sleep people. They were EVERYWHERE.
People like Sheryl Sandberg telling us that sleep was basically how she made everything work in her life all the time.
Ariana Huffington told us womenfolk that we had to “sleep” our way to the top, i.e. get enough sleep so we’d have the energy to go out and push global feminism or whatever.
Forgive me if I was skeptical.
I don’t view either of these women as role models, first of all. They’re brilliant and industrious. But Ariana Huffington has famously exploited people and Sheryl Sandberg is astoundingly condescending about how women can succeed.
Sleep is important. But sleep is not a sexy health indicator. I don’t see people posting counts of how much sleep they got the night before. I would be amazed if that ever happens.
Also, I’ve grown pretty sick of self care being marketed as feminist. Everyone needs self care. The 35-year-old dude running a company in the big skyscraper downtown would probably be pumped if he could take two hours and get a…
