How to not f*ck up your twenties.

You’re doing better than you think.

Everyone has an opinion on how to spend your twenties.

You have to travel. You have to take care of your health, but also party. You should go out a lot. You shouldn’t go out at all. You should get laid all the time. You should find a life partner. You have to live it up because you’re about to fall off a cliff into *Very Serious Adult Life.

Now that I’m out of my twenties, I hate these “live it up in your twenties” articles with a burning passion. Why? They make everyone feel like shit.

Even if you are vacationing all the time and succeeding financially in your twenties, you might not have a lot saved for retirement. You might be single. You may be living with parents, be floating between minimum wage jobs, or battling a porn addiction. I’m convinced these articles are created in labs specifically to make anyone who reads them feel like shit. Businesses make a lot of money from selling vacations and overpriced cocktails to people trying to have no regrets.

The insecurity goes doubly hard if, like me, you didn’t have an ideal launch into your twenties. It’s hard to travel and lounge by the pool if you’re paying off debt. You might feel guilty about taking time off to relax, let alone taking a trip to “broaden your horizons.”…
